SHIRLEYS HUMOUR PASSAGE

SPRING CLEANING

When winter is over and the sun starts to shine

Our homes always look a bit drab

The woodwork looks fine and the walls really shine

But to others the paint brush they grab.

When I hear the words satin or matt

White spirit, sugar soap and Thinner

I know that I’ve lost so just count the cost

On this subject I am surely no winner.

The smell of the paint is so strong

I have no choice but to leave

It has to be quick or I’ll be very sick

As I’m already starting to heave.

Although the weather is wet and cold

I go out to escape the foul smell

So that when I get back and take off my Mac

I can take a deep breath really well.

Don’t get me wrong when it’s done

I can sing a thankful refrain

That without fear it will last a year

Then be in need of re-painting again.
