When the days are dark I long for spring
To see what life the garden will bring
Sprouting bulbs to spy, colour for my eye
All to remove winters frosty sting.
Crocus and snowdrops come up first
They start to take away my thirst
To see winter’s end, frost damage to mend
It’s good to see the colours burst.
Daffodils dancing in the breeze
A wonderful sight to follow the freeze
To herald them in is not a sin
Even though their pollen makes me sneeze.
Planting in earnest now will start
Which really does give one heart?
To plan and design, make a garden mine
My love of colours to the world impart.
Baskets, troughs, tubs at last
Respond to the sun and bloom very fast
At last I can say with a big hurray
Winter for a while is history past.
